Following a occupation in plastic surgery that spanned thirty years and stints in Miami and San Diego, plastic surgeon Joel Roskind has returned to New York, where he ran a clinic for many years, to teach, consult and pursue his interest in Judaic Spirituality. He will also return to lecturing at Boston University Medical School, where he taught previously. He will also instruct in the domains of practice management and facilities accreditation.
Dr. Joel Roskind draws on a wealth of knowledge that includes running a large, successful practice; functioning as an inspector for the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAASF); lecturing at half a dozen medical schools and serving on a three-man plastic surgery team in the U.S. Navy.
Aside from operating a grand, successful plastic surgery office, he also has an active interest in patient safety. Over the course of his vocation, he witnessed an increasing number of surgical procedures moving from hospital settings to ambulatory and outpatient facilities. He observed that while cost efficient, this trend also raised a number of patient safety questions. This lead him to form a long and fruitful relationship with the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAASF), subsequently becoming an inspector for that body and helping establish what is now the gold standard for outpatient facility accreditation. He is well qualified to confer with such facilities to help them accomplish certification.
Joel Roskind MD was heavily involved with the AAAASF during the cost-induced shift from hospital to outpatient procedures, and is well versed in patient safety and regulatory compliance matters surrounding outpatient and ambulatory clinics. He has also taken a smart interest in the business side of medicine and now advises in the region of practice management.
Dr. Joel Roskind looks forward to bringing his knowledge to a broader audience of medical scholars, practicing physicians and surgeons and operators of ambulatory surgery facilities. In what promises to be a very active retirement, Joel Roskind also plans to follow studies in Judaic spirituality.
